Introduced in 1964, the D12-20 was Martin's first 12-string, and was based on a 12-fret design using the venerable D18's wood combination of Sitka Spruce and Mahogany, but with a slotted headstock and slope shoulder dreadnought body.

This one was made in early 1967 while the Martin company was producing a relatively low number of guitars, shortly before the demand for musical instruments skyrocketed following the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. As is the case with many of these instruments, surgery needed to be done to bring it back into service, which included a neck reset and a new, handmade bridge.
